Here’s the first thing you’ll want to know about Shaun Murphy, Minneapolis’s new bicycle and pedestrian coordinator: He rides a shitty bike. The chain and chainrings are rusted,  the seat’s duct taped and the brakes squeak so loudly they’ll make you jump the first time you hear them.
Why, you ask, is that the first thing you’ll want to know about this man? Because along with that crappy bike comes a refreshing lack of the pretentiousness you might expect from someone in his position (Murphy is the city’s new bicycle-pedestrian coordinator). What you get instead is a guy who likes riding his bike and who wants to make the streets safer for those like him. In fact, Murphy wants to make the streets safer for everyone—whether they’re on foot, on two wheels or behind a steering wheel.
